The path to peace and calm is mostly within us because good health is the best way to relieve stress. When people think of stress they tend to think of external stress like their job, their kids or their money problems. These stressors do affect us internally by provoking toxic stress hormones like cortisol. These stress hormones damage the heart, the immune system and eventually make us feel ill.
But it’s often futile to attack some types of external stress. Most of us can’t change our job or win the lottery. Trying to fight the impossible only creates more stress.
Much better is to relieve the internal stress and improve your health. Some of the ways to do this are through relaxation, slow breathing and listening to music. Sometimes just talking to someone you trust can also reduce internal stress.
